Why Learn About Conflicts of Interests?

  • Treat conflicts of interests as an essential governance risk, coming to terms with how financial interests, personal relationships and outside commitments can affect professional judgement and cause both real and perceived bias.

  • You must adhere to UK legal and regulatory requirements on bribery, fraud and conflicts management, including the Bribery Act and sector-specific rules. Implementing transparent policies around declarations, evaluations and record keeping is not discretionary; it is a legal and regulatory protection for you, your staff and your institution.

  • Unmanaged conflicts can harm stakeholders and markets, resulting in unfair competitive advantage, market manipulation, corruption, and a loss of public trust. For you personally and for your company, this means investigations, fines, litigation, disciplinary action, and exclusion from major contracts or opportunities.

  • You can minimise your risk by identifying conflicts in all major areas – financial interests, personal relationships, external roles, gifts and hospitality, and information use. Practical steps span routine declarations, interest registers, decision logs and structured checklists for new roles, projects or partnerships

Why This Course?

The Conflicts of Interests course from WuDo Solutions is led by experts with experience who have helped organisations like yours on the ground. They therefore know what works and what doesn’t, meaning this course goes much further than simply giving you knowledge of requirements around managing conflicts of interests. It’s how to as much as what, and why.

  • You will learn through expert led role-specific conflicts of interests training which explains legal and regulatory requirements, real-life case studies, and how to identify and manage concerns. This creates the knowledge and confidence to spot subtle conflicts, whether cultural, technological, or slow-changing relationships.

  • You will develop skills to build a strong conflicts framework with comprehensive procedures for mitigation, escalation and enforcement, such as recusal from decisions, reallocation of duties and timely declaration of new interests. This turns training from a paper exercise into a functioning system that safeguards both your integrity and your organisation’s reputation.

Throughout the learning there are quizzes, case studies and Q&A sessions where people are encouraged to test what they are being taught against their own experience and systems. Unlike any other provider we also offer six-month’s post course support, completely free, to help ensure peoples new skills are successfully applied in the real world.

Course Structure

Module 1: Understanding Interests

What are interests? This first module explains what interests are and the different type of interests that exist

Module 2: Understanding Conflicts of Interests

In this module we explore how interests can cause conflicts and what kind of conflicts can arise. We discuss how the perception of any conflicts of interests matters and explore both actual and potential conflicts

Module 3: Fraud and Bribery

We consider fraud and bribery and how they relate to conflicts of interests. The module explores how you can use your conflicts of interests systems to effectively prevent fraud and bribery and explore how these systems will help your organisation comply with its statutory duty to prevent both.

Module 4: Gifts, Sponsorship and Hospitality

Gifts, sponsorship and hospitality can be problematic for organisations so this module explores what they are and how to manage them in the context of conflicts of interests.

Module 5: Declaring Interests

Module 5 teaches you when and how to get people to declare any interests they have. It also covers how to manage these declarations in a GDPR compliant way.

Module 6: Making Decisions

Once interests are declared what do you do? This module covers next steps, from decision making to communication and implementation.

Module 7: Action Planning

Won't we just end up with a big bureaucracy?

The aim of this course is to give you the skills you need to manage – and demonstrate management – of conflicts of interests as part of your business as usual activity. We aim to make life easier, not fill your day with extra processes and hurdles to clear. You will have some things to do post-course, but you will also very likely realise that there are things you can stop doing, or do in a simpler way.

What does the post-course support involve?

Sometimes it isn’t easy to apply learning to the real world. To help ensure you can if you realise you do not understand something or have difficulty applying it your trainer will be available to coach you on how to get past any obstacles. Get in touch any time, as often as you need to, within six months of your course date and we will help you.

Is further support available?

What if we change our minds?

We understand circumstances and needs can change. With WuDo Solutions you can have a full refund, switch to an alternative date, or send an alternative participant up to the day before the course. Just get in touch to let us know.

Where are your venues?
